Peotone Fire Protection District Board of Trustees announces town hall event to discuss personnel crisis, upcoming consolidation referendum

September 1, 2022

Peotone, IL -- The Peotone Fire Protection District has been informed that a referendum will appear on the ballot in the November general election that, if approved by a simple majority of voters, would consolidate it with the Manhattan Fire Protection District.

The referendum question is identical to the question posed to voters in the June primary election and reads as follows:

“Shall the Peotone Fire Protection District dissolve and be consolidated
into the Manhattan Fire Protection District?”

The Board will be working in the coming weeks to share information and facts with residents about the reasons why joining forces with a partnering district is the best approach to address personnel shortages that leave the Peotone station unacceptably understaffed too often.

To that end, the Peotone Fire Protection District’s Board of Trustees is hosting an open house event on Wednesday, September 14 at 7 pm at Peotone High School so residents can learn more facts about the personnel crisis within the fire district and how a consolidation can address the challenges at hand. The Board of Trustees encourages residents to attend this important event.
